The Primforge group is proud and happy to release the weblin Gate in New Berlin, an avatar teleporter in cooperation with zweitgeist GmbH into the Public.

Weblin — that is small avatars that live on common websites, to chat, surf together with friends, talk about the current news on your page or blog (yes, they are there!), or just be present and greet their visitors on their own page. Since 2006, weblin avatars — created by the Hamburg company zweitgeist — are amongst us. I’m constantly amazed at that parallel cosmos that lives on lots of popular sites, that I surf all day.

Primforge sind ausserordentlich stolz und erfreut, das weblin Gate in New Berlin in Kooperation mit der zweitgeist GmbH der Öffentlichkeit zu übergeben.

Weblins — das sind kleine Avatare, mit denen man auf normalen Webseiten herumspazieren kann, um zu chatten, mit Freunden gemeinsam zu surfen, über aktuelle Themen auf der gerade besuchten Webseite zu diskutieren, oder einfach um präsent zu sein, und auf der eigenen Website Besucher zu empfangen. Seit 2006 sind sie — von der Hamburger Firma zweitgeist erdacht — im World Wide Web unterwegs. Ich bin immer wieder erstaunt, auf wievielen Seiten, die ich jeden Tag absurfe, sich gleichzeitig Weblins treffen.

Im neu eröffneten weblin Gate in  New Berlin kann man nun seinen voll ausgestatteten Second-Life-Avatar von unserem professionellen 3D-Fotografen Weblin Paule ablichten lassen, und dann direkt mit seinem persönlichen weblin weitersurfen.

Für SL-Residents ist das eine tolle Möglichkeit, den eigenen Avatar, die liebewonnene Identität unkompliziert ins gute alte World Wide Web mitzunehmen, und für routinierte Weblins eine einfache Art, sich mit allen Mitteln, die Second Life zu bieten hat, ihr persönliches Aussehen zu gestalten.

“Win-win” könnte man sagen, oder einfach: “Best of both worlds”.

Lately there was some joking in one of the SL group forums, that Second Life has a Physics engine (Havok4), but no Chemistry Engine yet. Well, there are a few things we scripters can still invent, while the common workflow is taken over by the big companies like IBM and Rivers Run Red.

Clare Rees is the new European Marketing Director of Linden Lab, the Makers of Second Life.
She has been working as Marketing Director and Senior Group Manager (Creative, Education & Mobile) at Macromedia/Adobe since 1998.

…das Buch zum Film, in dem wir alle mitspielen…

Ich hatte mich schon vor Monaten ein bischen gewundert und gefreut, dass die Autoren Christiane Giercke und Ralph Müller in ihrem Blog zum Buch auf Primforge.com verlinken. Heute wurde von Silvio Interflug auf slinside.com gefragt, wer denn so welche Bücher über SL hat, und da ist es mir plötzlich aufgefallen:

Auf dem Einband, das Bild, das ist The Trimedia World, mein allererstes selbstgebautes Sim, mein ganz persönlicher Einstieg in die Unternehmenswelt. (Mad, Dread und Suu sollten hier natürlich nicht unerwähnt bleiben, ohne die hätte ich das nie geschafft.)

Primforge selbst ist ja ein hochgradig virtuelles Unternehmen, und haben uns zunächst ausschliesslich in SL zusammengefunden. Beim Bau von The Trimedia World und Gamesload Island kannte ich einen Teil der Mitarbeiter nur mit ihrem SL-Namen…^^

Just visiting Microsoft Island:

C’mon guys, that’s not a big secret: If you make a slideshow in SL, make sure to preload the next image (and maybe some more, depending on your user guidance). It’s really easy, not a secret to do so in SL, and it’s a huge drawback for your audience to lose out on that.

Actually that’s just a tiny bit of really bad scripting/ergonomic knowledge, I find all over Second Life, but it reminds me so much to the “hey, it loads OK for me” from back in 1997.
