Argh. I find myself wanting to login to SL, since i have urgent work to do there, then, thinking: “Hey, maybe they finally have the new RC client online…“. Looking on http://blog.secondlife.com/, Nuthin. This happened 3 times today. And our Sim, Meetingpoint is one of the few 1000 that still doesn’t have the new server version with the Mono engine, grrr. Bump!

Wow! Yesterday, Linden Lab™ announced the first open betatest for Inter Grid Teleport. You have to download a special Beta Client, and patch your OpenSim with the latest OGP (Open Grid Protocol) patches, or use a precompiled server. And hey, that actually works! First I logged into Vaak, then I teleported to 3 other grids, as described here, and spoke to a nice spanish guy. I even was on my own testserver, http://primforge.org:9009!

It really really works! Now I deserve a special Gridnaut Bear.

Wow, that’s really psychedelic. yukon/seom, yunikorn and vlc magick. Not yet mp4, but mpeg1 (which quicktime can handle also). 8 seconds latency. Easily scalable.

(For the curious: It’s a video stream taken directly from my SL window, and played back into SL. Theoretically I could stream any kind of OpenGL application.)

Zum Auftakt haben wir einen nicht leicht zu ergründenden, dafür aber umso lohnenswerteren Jagdgrund ausgemacht: Das VOGUE-Sim ist eigentlich sehr schwer zu betreten, Fliegen ist verboten, Jagdpächter streifen herum und erschweren dem Botspotter den Spass an der Freude. Aber ein gesunder Nervenkitzel soll schon dabei sein, oder?^^

Wer es schafft, als erster! ein Foto der nativen Herde von Bots an Nuschi Martynov zu schicken, wird mit einem Preis von 500 Lindendollar (proudly sponsored by Primforge™) beglückt. Update: Wow! Es gibt doch auch noch echte Avatare in SL. Etliche davon haben mitgemacht (Alle Fotos und Filme auf 2ndtravel.blogspot.com!), oder in den Foren slinside.com und slinfo.de ihr Feedback zu unserer Aktion gegeben.

Vielen Dank an alle, die in dem oben genannten Sinne den Turing-Test bestanden haben, und natürlich an Nuschi und Hallogen, die tapferen Vorreiter, die sich todesmutig dem Ban gestellt haben!^^ Eine Kennzeichnungspflicht für Bots ist sicher nicht so einfach zu bewerkstelligen, und z.B. bei AjaxLife.net repräsentieren Bots ja auch echte User, aber wenn wir mit den Füßen abstimmen, werden die Traffic-Erschleicher bald merken, dass Energie- und Geldverschwendung nicht das ist, was der Kunde will. Ich freue mich schon auf die nächste Spot-the-Bot-Aktion, und danke Nuschi für die tolle Idee und fürs mitmachen-dürfen.

Just a short note on the Dryad Tool, I blogged about: Here’s a video of the author describing his work. Unfortunately the Linux version is still not ready. But the principle is easy to adapt to Second Life avatars or other multi parametric builds.

Moar Groupz: Torrid want!!1!

It’s definitely time for more group slots again. (But – as you can see, /me has already a bonus (see bottom of pic).^^)

Orange have an interesting way to get along with the situation: If you are interested in their event news, you click on a panel. Seconds later you receive a friend request of a Avatar called “EventReminder OrangeGroup”. This happens to be a bot, that sends you IMs on the events, just as the name says. I’m just in the process of building such a thing for our own portfolio, justincase. But nontheless, this is just a cheap surrogate: Forming groups in SL is a higly social process, you don’t just want to receive and chat, otherwise, we could all just subscribe to an RSS feed or mailing list. It’s vital that you can see who’s in that group with you, or peek into some Avie’s profile and see his group list. The whole “Oh hai, you too?/Love your grouplist!” thing called Web2.0(tm)….

Yes, I should really rather post the list of groups I had to leave in the past, than my current selection. There’s nothing more heart-breaking than telling someone “Hey, I really love being in your Friend Group, but I have to dump that, because there are new jobs to be done…” Or wait, how about: “This Avatar is full. Please send your future requests to Builder0815 Primforge.”

Our superb texturer and builder Madteaparty Hofmann has been building a club area on Meetingpoint in the last weeks, and we had a smashing evening there lately. Themroc is the name of the club, and we had the sweet Tasty Hax as DJane. I take it as more than a coincidence, that we didn’t have a real party there since we pwned the sim in November (that’s not entirely true, tx Oh has already had a evening here with his flying Temp Rez Club, which probably deserves a blog article on it’s own^^), and it’s totally exactly the 1st anniversary since Mad sent me a lovely invitation to be the “Scripting ace” of a newly founded group, called “Primforge“.

Anyway, THIS IS NOT A TEST: We’ll be having random acts of partay at Themroc Club in the next weeks, and there’s a rumour that Mad will be having a Ninjam group there, jamming live music streamed to SL in the next week. So:
