Primforge sind ausserordentlich stolz und erfreut, das weblin Gateway in New Berlin in Kooperation mit der zweitgeist GmbH der Öffentlichkeit zu übergeben.

Weblin — das sind kleine Avatare, mit denen man auf normalen Webseiten herumspazieren kann, um zu chatten, mit Freunden gemeinsam zu surfen, über aktuelle Themen auf der gerade besuchten Webseite zu diskutieren, oder einfach um präsent zu sein, und auf der eigenen Website Besucher zu empfangen. Seit 2006 sind sie — von der Hamburger Firma zweitgeist erdacht — im World Wide Web unterwegs. Ich bin immer wieder erstaunt, auf wievielen Seiten, die ich jeden Tag absurfe, sich gleichzeitig Weblins treffen.

In der weblin avatarstation in New Berlin kann man nun seinen voll ausgestatteten Second-Life-Avatar von unserem professionellen 3D-Fotografen Weblin Paule ablichten lassen, und dann direkt mit seinem persönlichen weblin weitersurfen.

Für SL-Residents ist das eine tolle Möglichkeit, den eigenen Avatar, die liebewonnene Identität unkompliziert ins gute alte World Wide Web mitzunehmen, und für routinierte Weblins eine einfache Art, sich mit allen Mitteln, die Second Life zu bieten hat, ihr persönliches Aussehen zu gestalten.

“Win-win” könnte man sagen, oder einfach: “Best of both worlds”.

tx Oh was at the Orange Island interoperability meeting. And he made an audio recording of the conference, I am hearing right now. Way interesting, the idea of merging 2D / Web2.0 with 3D / Web3.0: Instead of bringing the web to SL, take your avatar (and your friend’s ones) from SL to the two-dimensional Web and back.

Weblin (on the more flat side of the VW scene) seems to be an important part of it, because it exists with a good user base, has an open and transparent architecture, and it is really useful by itself.

Crossing borders between different Virtual Worlds is the next big thing. (I tell ya!^^) While there will probably never be an archetyp Avatar, that bears all possible features of any imaginable VW, taking your N identity into the M world is increasingly important.

In their Blog, Linden Lab announced one more kludge to make that happen: Now with every Slurl you create, there comes a button to create an avatar on the fly, if you don’t have one yet. So, the route from any medium with http links (Websites or a Skype chat as in Torley’s example video) to Second Life is a known passage now.

Ich hab bisher nur den Online-Spieler-Report (PDF, 40 Seiten) dazu gelesen, die “weiteren Ergebnisse” des Instituts gibt es hier zum Download (PDF, ca. 150 Seiten). Insgesamt sieht es cool aus mit unserer Jugend und Online-Spielen, viel mehr, als ich von Haus aus denken würde (mein Partner hat seine Diplomarbeit ueber Spielsucht geschrieben..^^). Zwei Sachen sind mir aufgefallen, a: Second Life ist nicht so das Thema bei der Stichprobe (ca. 400 Jugendliche, zu 56% 15-18-jährig). und b: Die Befrager scheinen Second Life generell als Realitätsflucht zu verstehen (oder sie wiegeln wegen der schlechten Presse ab), fand ich. Generell ist der Tonfall (ich hab ja nur die 40 Seiten Konzentrat gelesen) ein beschwichtigender, “Hey, ist alles nicht so schlimm, die Kiddies haengen gar nicht voll am Draht.”

Im Ernst: Wie schon bei ähnlichen Studien in UK rauskam, nehmen die Kids einfach ihren Clan und ihre Online-Community als weitere Dimension von Peer Group auf, man spielt, um zu kommunizieren, nicht, um zu fliehen.

Interessant: Die Umfragen liefen z.T. letztes Jahr auf der Games Convention, das war zu Uber-Hype-Zeiten, und wir hatten gerade Gamesload gemacht.

Hehe, after 224 days, I decided that Primforge.com needed a new kernel today, and of course the Postfix patches. So the SMTP was down some minutes, as well as the webserver and the chat bridge to Second Life.

Unfortunately I forgot to restart the Opensim Regions, so Valis, Primforge, Simulacron and Piper (the OGP Sim) were down for about 4 hours.

Our internal developer Wiki is still down, I haven’t found the patch for mod_python yet…

Hey, it’s been a while, that I was actually at the Loveparade in Berlin… (And I’ve been to the Fuckparade/Hateparade much more often… ;-)) But: Second Life has changed my musical spectrum in such a way, that I am much more influenced by Techno, Drum&Bass, Industrial Hardcore, Happy/Gabber/Braindead music, than I could ever have imagined.

Wow! Yesterday, Linden Lab™ announced the first open betatest for Inter Grid Teleport. You have to download a special Beta Client, and patch your OpenSim with the latest OGP (Open Grid Protocol) patches, or use a precompiled server. And hey, that actually works! First I logged into Vaak, then I teleported to 3 other grids, as described here, and spoke to a nice spanish guy. I even was on my own testserver, http://primforge.org:9009!

It really really works! Now I deserve a special Gridnaut Bear.
